Help Elect Dr. Jayna

S.O.A.R.

I am currently President of S.O.A.R.,
Sylvan Old Auburn Road Neighborhood Association (Area 10)

The Sylvan Old Auburn Road Neighborhood Association (Area 10) is bounded by Sylvan Road, Old Auburn Road, Greenback Lane and Sunrise Boulevard.

SOAR is a 501c3 tax-exempt non-profit corporation.  We have a 5-member Board of Directors.   Currently our Boardmembers are: Jayna Karpinski-Costa (President), Annecia Silver (Vice-President), Lorraine Furry (Secretary), Esther Stanwood (Treasurer) and Lucile Johnson (Community Liaison Officer). The position of Teen Director is currently vacant; we are looking for a teen who either lives in SOAR or who attends San Juan High School.

We are now working on a project to establish and provide uniform house numbering for all interested residents/homeowners in Area 10. This project will greatly increase house number visibility and allow quicker response time for police, fire and other emergency services.  The signs are free to anyone who lives within the boundaries of SOAR.   If oyu would like a house number, please contact Jayna Karpinski-Costa.

SOAR publishes a newsletter periodically called “Bird’s Eye View.” Our annual fundraiser is a yard sale -- "It's for the Birds".

Members of the organization have participated in, or are currently participating in, the 911 Task Force, the Community Facilities and Services Advisory Committee, the newly formed Historical Preservation and Cultural Arts Commission, Sunrise Recreation and Park District, the Planning Commission and many other committees. SOAR is actively involved in assisting its senior community through the “Caring Neighborhoods Program” to enable them to continue to live safely and comfortably in their own homes longer.

In partnership with Mercy San Juan Hospital Trauma Center, we have sponsored free bike helmets for kids in Citrus Heights. Kids can receive a free bike helmet if they attend a 1-hr bike safety class.

Our next project is our 4th Annual Christmas for the SOAR Seniors at Sunrise Community.  We partner with Senior Gleaners' Cut-Ups (the sewing group) who provide our seniors with 75-100 hand-sewn lap robes or hand-made shawls. We "wrap" our gifts in white bags which are covered with re-cycled Christmas cards collected in the community.   The youth group from Pioneer Baptist Church performs a chorale of Christmas songs while the gifts are presented.

SOAR meets the 4th Monday of each month
at the Pioneer Baptist Church
7600 Old Auburn Blvd.
at 7:00 p.m.

You are welcome to join us for our next meeting!
